NATIONAL CHILDREN'S MONTH
The 2025 National Children’s Month, with its very interesting theme “OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!”, emphasizes the urgency of protecting children from online sexual abuse and exploitation. Children are exposed to a variety of online risks that affect their safety and innocence in a world that is rapidly becoming more digital. This theme serves as a powerful reminder that children’s rights must always come first, and society must work together to ensure that every child can grow, learn, and explore without fear of harm, particularly in online environments where predators are becoming more prevalent.
Through laws and awareness campaigns, the Philippine government has stepped up efforts to protect children. Republic Act 11930, the Anti-OSAEC and Anti-CSAEM Act, is a significant step that imposes greater consequences on those who create, distribute, or possess materials that exploit children. Organizations like the DSWD, DOJ, and PNP also conduct rescue operations, digital safety seminars, and community-based programs that empower parents, educators, and local leaders. These actions show how committed the entire nation is to stopping abuse, punishing violators, and protecting the rights and dignity of every Filipino child.
Even with these actions, more needs to be done to end OSAEC and protect children worldwide. Communities need to be vigilant and knowledgeable as new forms of exploitation grow due to technological advancements. Families, schools, social workers, law enforcement, and online platforms must continue to collaborate in order to create a safer digital world.
