VISIT THE TIMELESS BEAUTY OF
VIGAN CITY
Our journey began at the world-famous Calle Crisologo, the heart of Vigan’s heritage district. As we walked along its cobblestone streets, we were surrounded by beautifully preserved Spanish colonial houses, antique shops, and cafés. The sound of horse-drawn calesas added to the nostalgic atmosphere, making us feel like we had stepped back in time. Every corner of Calle Crisologo tells a story of how Vigan continues to keep its history alive while welcoming modern visitors with warmth and pride.
Next, we visited the Pagburnayan Pottery Village, where we experienced the traditional art of pottery making. Here, local potters skillfully mold clay into beautiful burnay jars using techniques passed down through generations. Watching them work was truly fascinating, and we even got the chance to try shaping our own pots. The experience showed us how patience, creativity, and craftsmanship define the hardworking people of Vigan.
Our third stop was the Hidden Garden, a peaceful bamboo grove filled with lush plants, bonsai displays, and tropical greenery. It’s a relaxing escape where visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of Vigan while sipping coffee or trying local Ilocano dishes at the café inside. The Hidden Garden is not just a tourist spot, it’s also a symbol of environmental care and sustainability, showing how Vigan preserves both its culture and nature.
Our last destination was the Baluarte Zoo, a fun and educational spot for both kids and adults. The zoo features various animals such as birds, camels, tigers, and reptiles. We enjoyed walking around the open spaces and seeing animals up close. The place also promotes animal care and environmental awareness, making it not only entertaining but also meaningful. Baluarte Zoo added adventure and excitement to our historical journey through Vigan.
Visiting the Heritage City of Vigan was an unforgettable experience that deepened my appreciation for Filipino history and culture. From the historic charm of Calle Crisologo to the artistry of Pagburnayan, the calm of Hidden Garden, the legacy preserved in Crisologo Museum, and the adventure at Baluarte Zoo, each place taught me something unique about our identity as Filipinos. Vigan is not just a city; it’s a living museum that continues to inspire pride, creativity, and love for our heritage.
